According to the latest annual report on the international market of Chilean cherries from 2021 to 2022 released by iqonsulting, a fresh fruit export consulting company headquartered in Santiago, Chile, the total export volume of Chilean cherries in this export season was 356000 tons, of which 88% were exported to the Chinese market.
This is an epitome of the accelerated development of China Chile agricultural trade. The industry generally believes that the trade of high-quality agricultural products has brought tangible benefits to both sides, and is optimistic about the future market prospect.
The supply and demand of both sides are highly complementary and mutually beneficial
Usually, the supply period of Chilean cherries listed from November and December to march of the next year coincides with the relatively scarce winter market of fruits in China, and also coincides with traditional holidays such as new year's day and Spring Festival. At present, most of them are transported by sea, with lower cost and cheaper price.
According to reports, Jorge Valenzuela, chairman of the association of Chilean fruit producers, said in an interview with the media that China has a "cherry culture". Chinese people not only like to eat cherries, but also are willing to use cherries as festival gifts. The characteristics of high nutritional value of cherries are favored by more and more Chinese consumers.
Agriculture, especially fruit planting, is an important engine driving Chile's economic growth. Exports of Chilean fresh fruits, such as prunes and peaches, increased by 51.1% over the previous quarter of 2020, mainly from Chilean fresh fruits Association.
It is worth mentioning that in mid January this year, the first batch of Chinese kiwifruit officially appeared in the Chilean market, which also filled the gap in the Chilean summer fruit market. Pinochet, Vice Minister of agriculture of Chile, said that this is the first time that Chilean consumers have the opportunity to taste high-quality kiwifruit produced in China in summer. In the future, Chile also hopes to import more agricultural products from China.
It is understood that Chile is an importer and exporter of kiwifruit. The planting area of Kiwifruit in China is about 8000 hectares. The harvest season starts from autumn and winter in the southern hemisphere, while Chile imports kiwifruit from China, which can make use of the complementarity of agricultural production between the two countries to make up for the market gap in summer.
In addition to fruits, Chile's exports to China, such as meat, have also increased significantly, and wine is also hot.
China is an important trading partner of Chile. Chile is the first South American country to establish diplomatic relations with China. It is also the first Latin American country to sign a free trade agreement with China and complete the upgrading of the free trade agreement with China. Even in the face of the challenge of the COVID-19, the bilateral trade between China and Chile continues to maintain the growth momentum. In 2021, China will remain Chile's largest export market and the largest source of imports.
In promoting trade in agricultural products, bilateral cooperation is deepening day by day. In 2019, the upgraded version of the China Chile free trade agreement came into force, further expanding Chile's agricultural exports to China. In December 2021, the two countries signed a protocol on the inspection and quarantine requirements for Chilean frozen fruits exported to China, which clearly stipulated the quarantine standards for 17 kinds of Chilean characteristic frozen fruits such as cherry, apple and blueberry, marking that Chilean fruits exported to China will expand from fresh fruits to frozen fruits, further promoting the development of agricultural products trade between the two sides.
